Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start exercising after having my baby?

To start exercising properly after having your baby you need to be signed off by your doctor or health advisor, which is usually 8 weeks after a natural birth and 10 – 12 weeks after a c-section. You can however, start doing pelvic floor and Diastasis recti exercises for ab separation before then which are more gentle and help with the healing. We have exercises within our 12 week course

How heavy can your baby be for me to exercise in a baby sling fit class?
The earlier you start Baby Sling Fit the lighter your baby is and as baby grows you get used to the gradual weight increase which helps you to get stronger. We have mums with babies up to 10kg and over 12 months but they have grown with Baby Sling Fit so both baby and mum are used to the weight. Always listen to your body and start off gently to see how you feel with little one on you in a sling and go from there.
What should I dress my baby in for the Baby Sling Fit class?

Please take off any warm clothes and allow your baby to be just in a vest and nappy for the class. You will heat up during the class and your baby will feel this and enjoy the warmth, so they don’t need warm clothes in addition.

Can my baby overheat during a class?

When babies are in the first 10 weeks they tend to feel the cold more as their circulation regulates and their nervous system and temperature management starts to work more efficiently. So make sure if it is a warm day that your room is ventilated so even if you do heat up it is still at a reasonable temperature for baby. Remember you are moving, they are not.

Will I lose unwanted baby weight if I start the 12 week Baby Sling Fit course?

If you are eating sensibly and taking care of yourself then following our step-by-step course, which includes 4 elements for you to follow a week, you will see your baby weight reduce as well as bloating in your tummy.

We have had mums lose as much as 10lbs (4kg) without dieting and following along during the 12 weeks and have increased their energy levels at the same time. When you exercise with resistance (with your baby on you) you will increase your metabolism, build muscle, use and lose fat quicker and feel more toned.

We cannot guarantee weight loss as we are not monitoring your eating, exercise and sleep habits but this programme has worked for 100’s of women by making sure they do 2 Baby Sling workouts a week plus 2 core exercises a week. Check out our testimonials.

Will the music be too loud for my baby?

The short answer is ‘No’.

Babies love music and noise – they have been in your tummy for 40 weeks listening to your loud heartbeat and so movement and music is fun, uplifting and they love it.

Can I exercise when my baby is crying and grisly?
The best time to put your baby in to a baby sling is when they are tired, grumpy, fighting sleep, crying to be held as the closeness to you will soothe them more quickly, the firmness of the baby sling makes them feel safe, they can hear your heart beat and more often than not they will stop within a few short minutes as you rock and soothe them. This is the perfect time to exercise as they will fall asleep in the class, and you will enjoy them being on you for the exercises.
What if my baby needs feeding or changing in the middle of a workout?
The best thing to do is to pause the video take care of little one and when you are ready join back in either without little one because they have gone down for nap or pop them back into the sling and carry on. You’ll feel more relaxed, and baby will too.
Does exercising whilst I am breastfeeding harm my milk production?

The answer to this is ‘No’. Exercise and movement are good for the body, if you feel pressure in your breasts whilst exercising you might want to make sure you feed a little bit before exercising to relieve any pressure. But it will help your production as long as you are eating sensibly and taking care of yourself.

What if I don’t have the time to exercise?
As with anything consistency is key and the only thing that stops us from doing something we want to do is not planning it in! or making excuses!

We always manage to do what we are passionate about doing, so take a moment and get passionate about being a great Mum!  That can happen when you give yourself some time to heal, move and get strong, spend quality time with your baby plus learn what your new body needs to function to its best!

These are at home workouts that you can fit in around your life and you can do all the exercises with or without your baby on you. You can also do sections of the longer classes – so you can do a warmup or a main phase or a stretch – depending on your time and how your body is feeling.

Adapt the course to work for you – use the planner as a guide.

Will it help me improve my sleep and my baby’s sleep?
Exercising with your baby will help to balance your hormones and release happy feel good hormones like oxytocin (the love hormone) serotonin, dopamine and endorphins  (the happy hormones) as well as melatonin (helps regulate your sleep) As you become happier, calmer and sleep better your baby will also improve the calmness, and feel more secure with you and it is easier to  create good routines and practices that they will respond well too including sleeping for longer through the night.
Can I continue to do Baby Sling Fit after the 12 weeks is over?

‘Yes’, you can exercise as long as you want with your baby it is all about how you feel, how strong you are and what your health goals are.

We have follow on Pilates to help continue the core strengthening and toning – but these will be for you when you no longer want to carry your baby.

How do I access the 12 Week Course?
We have an App called Olive-Health which supports women with hormonal balance from pre-natal to post natal all the way through to menopause and post menopause.

Baby Sling Fit 12 Week Course is held on there and you will need to log-on and access the course through the App. There is also a web version of the App so I you ant to play the videos from your laptop you can.
